Association for Ethical Transformations, why and what

January 2025

For many years, transformations have consistently presented difficulties at best, and failures at worst. With a 8-country collective of consultants, coaches, business leaders, universities and schools, we have created an association with the ambition of guiding organizations towards ethical transformation.

Ethics. It’s a big word, but what does it look like in action? For the Association for Ethical Transformation (AET), ethics isn’t just an abstract ideal—it’s a way of thinking, behaving, and leading that shapes the future of organizations and the people within them. Let me share a glimpse into how AET's five pillars come to life through real experiences.

1. Ethical Leadership: Walking the Talk

A CEO I recently worked with shared a story about a tough moment when a major deal clashed with their ethical values. They chose to walk away, knowing it could cost them short-term revenue but protect the company’s long-term reputation. That decision set a precedent for everyone on their team, showing that ethics are non-negotiable. AET’s first pillar—leading by example—reminds us that leadership starts with visible integrity.

2. Balancing Ethics, People, and Profit

This one hits close to home. A manager once confided, “It’s hard to prioritize people when you’re chasing quarterly targets.” Yet, when we worked on aligning the team’s purpose with clear, ethical goals, something shifted. People felt heard, motivated, and invested in the business outcomes. The profits? They followed naturally. At AET, we believe that balancing ethics with financial and people considerations creates a foundation for lasting success.

3. Engagement: The Power of Listening

How often do we truly listen? I think back to a workshop where a young intern challenged senior executives during a brainstorming session. Instead of dismissing her ideas, the leader paused, asked questions, and invited her perspective. The result? A breakthrough strategy no one else had seen. Engagement starts with listening, valuing every voice, and fostering trust—a principle AET emphasizes in its third pillar.

4. Aligning Talents: Right Place, Right Time

I once met an employee who felt stuck in their role. After some honest conversations, we discovered their real passion was in sustainability projects. By shifting their responsibilities to align with their talents, they flourished—and so did the team. AET encourages organizations to take time for these conversations, aligning individual talents with roles that matter now and in the future. This isn’t just good for morale; it drives real impact.

5. Sustainability & CSR: Staying the Course

I’ll never forget a team struggling with resistance to change while rolling out new CSR initiatives. The turning point came when they started sharing real stories—how their actions were helping local communities and reducing waste. Slowly but surely, even the skeptics began to believe. AET’s final pillar teaches us to stay persistent and consistent in promoting ethical behavior, even when the road gets tough.

Ethics in Action

These stories show how AET’s five pillars are more than just a framework—they’re a call to action. Whether you’re a leader, a team member, or someone navigating the complexities of today’s business world, ethics can be your compass.

What’s your story? How have you seen ethics transform decisions, relationships, or outcomes in your work? I’d love to hear about it—share in the comments or send me a message. Let’s build this conversation together.
